Hi, I’m Kathryn — online as KC Reads.

Why this project?

This passion project started because I wanted storytime planning to feel a little easier—and a lot less time-consuming. As a children’s librarian, I’ve spent plenty of time digging through notes, bookmarks, playlists, random documents, and scattered links trying to find the right song or rhyme for the moment. I wanted a simple way to search, find, and use what I needed without overthinking it. So this is that—a growing collection of songs and rhymes you can search by title, creator, or keyword, all in one place. Everything here is chosen with early literacy in mind, but also with real storytimes in mind—the kind where kids are wiggly, caregivers are watching, and your plan may or may not survive after the welcome song.

This isn’t meant to tell you how to run your storytime. It’s just here to give you options, save you time, and maybe spark an idea or two when you need it by bringing it all together into one early literacy-focused database.

What you can do here

Search by early literacy skills, developmental skills, social-emotional skills, concepts, themes, props, music genre, format, and other storytime-friendly tags.

Save favorites, revisit recent finds, and quickly pull together resources that fit your audience and your program goals.

About the Designer

A little about me: I have my MLIS and a background in early childhood education (including a long-expired, yet still highly valuable, CDA). I’ve been working in libraries for about 10 years, leading storytimes for ages newborn through 5, and now I oversee core programming for my library system. I love puppets, picture books, and anything a little bit silly. Outside of work, I spend a lot of time making up songs that mostly just entertain me—and mildly concern my dog.
